Breaking! Jerry Gana joins 2019 presidential race

Former Minister of Information and Communication and current Chairman, National Steering Committee of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Professor Jerry Gana has decided to join the 2019 presidential race.

A statement signed Wednesday by his campaign team, Team G19, which was obtained by FirstAfrica News disclosed that the former minister during ex- President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration has finally heeded to calls on him by Nigerians to contest.

Gana, according, his campaign team will formally express his interest to join the presidential race come 2019, under the platform of the SDP, on Thursday in Abuja.

According to the statement, there will be a Democracy Walk from Maitama Amusement Park, Maitama, Abuja by 11am to the SDP secretariat where he will officially make his intention known to the party.

The statement said thereafter, he would then address a World Press Conference to announce his decision to the world.

Prof. Jerry Gana is a renowned man of integrity that has never been associated with any corrupt practice during his more than 40 years of meritorious service to the country in various capacities.

A one-time Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in 1983, Gana served the country as Chairman of the Mass Mobilization for Social Justice and Economic Reform (MAMSER), Minister of Integration and Corporation in Africa, Minister of Information, and the list is inexhaustible.

He has contributed in various ways toward strengthening democracy and development in Nigeria.

He is known for the prominent role he played in collaboration with other eminent professors like, Prof. Tunde Adeniran and Prof. Humphrey Nwosu of INEC in producing the electoral guideline and strategy that led to the first globally adjudged free and fair election in Nigeria on June 12, 1993.
